December is upon us! How did it creep up on us like this is what I want to know, I swear it was just October and in a blink of an eye we flew through November and here we are December 1! Time for the holidays again and all the time spent with family! I love this time of year, just because being with family is always a blast. All the stress of the holidays I could do without, but lucky for me my family stopped doing gifts last year. We just plan an outing and do that together. It’s wonderful!
BUT on this fine first of December we are enjoying a 40 degree day, but none stop rain. No snow yet. Though its not cold the weather is extremely gross out. I have already decided my day will be spent cooking soups and drinking wine. Before all of that can happen though coffee is needed ASAP! Danny and I went out last night and I am suffering from that horrible caffeine itch.
Dragging Danny back to Wicker Park to Bru Chicago!
Bru is not only known for being a coffee bar, but also its smoothies and work space and highly sought after. After stopping at the grocery store we zipped out to Wicker to grab some coffee to help warm us up.
Bru is right off the six way intersection at the Damen Blue line stop. Tucked between a bunch of bars and restaurants I have actually unknowingly walked past it a hundred times! It’s worth stopping in for though!
Upon entering there are table and chairs all over the place, you walk up a slight incline and the cafe just opens up, there is a food counter right away in front and next to that is the smoothie and coffee counter. The menu is never ending, plenty of smoothie options that all sounds delicious, they add protein to their smoothies too which is greest and I think always needed when making a smoothie otherwise you’re just drink fruit sugars. The flavor options for lattes and coffee are also huge, basically any flavor you could imagine they offer. Then there are all the actual tea options, never ending. I also wanted to get three drinks, try a smoothie, coffee and a tea! (might have been a bit much) I stuck with what I came here for; COFFEE!
One of the specials they were offering was a pumpkin chai latte, ummm sold! That sounds so yummy and delicious, sad thing about chai lattes is they never come with espresso so I am always stuck having to add that in and the barista this morning could not believe I was adding in two shots of espresso! She actually asked me if I was serious, yes mama I am quite serious about my espresso. GIVE IT TO ME!
Danny ordered their maple seasonal latte, also with an extra shot. Again the barista looked at us like we were crazy, I think she is crazy! While waiting for our coffees we took the time to explore the coffee shop a little more, the space is huge! It opens up more in the back with lot s a tables, printers, board games and random couches sprinkled all over the place. I don’t think it would be possible for anyone to not be able to find a seat at Bur! Danny even admitted he wouldn’t mind coming here to work, there are so many nooks you could easily find a seat and not be disturbed by people the whole time.
Coffee drinks ready to go we hung on the couch a little just relaxing and taking in the first few sips before heading back out into the rain. Both drinks so delicious, but looking back both too sweet for my personal liking. I do love chai tea drinks, mostly because it covers up any flavor of milk there might be in lattes. I hate milk! But they sometimes come too sweet for me. I have really started to enjoy cortados, those are just so small, but espresso flavor wise they are perfect!
Bur closely reminded me of Next Door Cafe in Lakeview with the work space availability. Next Door might be a bit cleaner and offers more computer working space, but found it interesting both cafes have a menu that focuses on coffee and smoothies! Anyone else know of a cafe that also makes great smoothies?
